Time Machine: How much do we know?
Have you ever wondered what we could change if we could go back in time? Like correcting a big mistake in history, meeting our loved ones again or going to the future to know what is going to happen to us. This idea forces us to think about time travel.
Time travel is a very exciting subject of science, philosophy and imagination. Thousands of books, films and research have been done on this. But the big question is – is time travel really possible? Can humans go to the future or past?
What is time travel
Time travel means – traveling in time, that is, moving from the present to the past or future.
When we live our everyday life, we are naturally moving forward with time.
But time travel means that we break this natural speed and move faster, slower, backwards or forwards in time.
Relationship between time and universe
Time and space are connected to each other. In physics it is called Space-Time.
Everything in our universe is bound by time and space.
If we can bend space (like planets and stars do with their gravitational force), then scientists believe that we can also bend time.
That is, time is not just the hand of the clock, but it is a dimension of the universe.
Einstein’s Theory of Relativity
To understand time travel, we have to know Albert Einstein’s theory.
1.Special Relativity
Einstein said that the flow of time depends on speed.
If an object moves close to the speed of light, then time will slow down for it.
This is called Time Dilation.
Example:
Suppose a person travels in a spaceship for 5 years at the speed of light, and then returns to Earth. Only 5 years would have passed for him, but perhaps 50 years would have passed on Earth. This would actually be a journey to the future.
2.General Relativity
According to Einstein, gravity also affects time.
The more gravity, the slower time will run.
This is why time slows down near a black hole.
Time Travel and History
The idea of time travel is not new.
Indian texts also mention. In the Mahabharata, “Kakudmi Raja” went to heaven to meet Brahma Ji and when he returned, thousands of years had passed on Earth.
In Western literature, H.G. Wells’ novel The Time Machine (1895) is the most famous.
Modern films such as Interstellar, Avengers: Endgame and Back to the Future popularized the idea of time travel.
Is it possible to go to the future?
What does science say?
Travel to the Future is possible.
We get evidence of this from time dilation and the experiences of astronauts.
According to NASA, astronauts living in space age a few milliseconds less than people on Earth.
But…
Travel to the future is possible, but the problem is that we cannot return to the past.
Is it possible to go to the past?
This question is the biggest mystery.
Some scientists believe that it may be possible to go to the past through a wormhole.
Wormhole is like a shortcut in space-time.
But this is only a theory so far, no practical evidence has been found for it.
Paradox
If we go to the past, many paradoxes will arise.
Example: Grandfather Paradox
If a person goes to the past and kills his grandfather before his marriage, then he will not be born.
But if he was not born, then how could he go to the past and kill his grandfather?
Thus the concept of going to the past becomes logically difficult.
Black Holes and Time Travel
Black holes are the most mysterious objects in the universe.
Time slows down so much near it that if a person stops at its edge (Event Horizon), it will be a few minutes for him, but thousands of years can pass for those outside.
Some scientists believe that black holes or wormholes can become the basis of time machines.
Concept of Time Machine
Till now time machines exist only in imagination and calculations.
Possible theories:
- Wormhole based time machine
- Cosmic Strings
- Rotating Black Holes
But no one has practically proven any technology till now.
Will time travel ever become a reality?
Scientists believe that going to the future is theoretically possible.
But returning to the past may never be possible.
For this we need energy, technology and a deep understanding of space-time.
Time travel in its final form
Time travel is a very attractive idea. Science has proved that traveling to the future is possible, but going to the past is still a mystery and a mere fantasy.
Perhaps in the future when our technology and understanding will become deeper, we will be able to solve the mysteries of time.
Until then time travel will remain a subject of adventure and imagination for us.
